How do I Create Multiple Storage Accounts using the Same Email Address?

This article explains how to register multiple Impossible Cloud storage accounts for different customers using a unique email address for each one.

Answer

Register each storage account with its own unique email address. If the you only has one mailbox, use plus addressing, adding a + suffix to the local part of the address:

  • user+customer1@example.com
  • user+customer2@example.com

Each variant counts as a distinct unique ID in Impossible Cloud, while system notifications (i.e. reset password mail) are still delivered to the same inbox.

Most providers support plus addressing, including Gmail and Outlook. Confirm that the customer's email provider supports it before you rely on this method, as behaviour varies between providers and self-hosted mail servers.

Why a unique email address is required

Impossible Cloud has two account types — Management Console user and Storage Account user — each managed in a separate system, and each using the email address as the account's unique identifier.

Within a single system, an email address can only be registered once. That means user@example.com can exist as a Management Console user and as a Storage Account user at the same time, but it cannot be used for two storage accounts.
