How to configure Impossible Cloud as a cloud storage in Backup Exec

This article explains how to integrate Impossible Cloud Storage with Backup Exec as a S3 compatible storage.

Step 1: Create a bucket in Impossible Cloud Console

You'll need to create a bucket in your Impossible Cloud Storage console under the root user.

Optionally, you can enable the ObjectLock feature for enhanced data protection. Note that you cannot use a bucket with Object Lock if you'd like to use the deduplication cloud storage.\

Here is a link to the Impossible Cloud Storage documentation, which includes detailed instructions and screenshots for creating a bucket with Object Lock.

Step 2: Install Backup Exec

Proceed by installing Backup Exec on your system. Follow the instructions to complete the installation process.

Step 3: Configure Cloud Storage

Launch the Backup Exec Generic S3 Configurator to configure cloud storage. Pay attention to the following options:

  •  Name: Provide a descriptive name for your cloud storage configuration.
  • Service Host: This corresponds to the Endpoint URL in Impossible Cloud terms.
  •  SSL mode: Select the appropriate SSL mode based on your requirements.
  •  URL style: You can use any URL style for cloud storage.
  •  Provider (v4): Select the "compatible-with-s3-v4" provider.
