How to configure Impossible Cloud Storage in Commvault Command Center
This article is a step-by-step guide on how to integrate Impossible Cloud as an S3-Compatible Cloud Storage in Commvault.
Prerequisites
- Commvault 11.32 (or higher) or Commvault Cloud configured.
- MediaAgent installed and connected to the CommCell server. Learn how to do this in Commvault’s documentation here.
- An active Impossible Cloud Storage account.
Step 1: Create a bucket in the Impossible Cloud Storage Console
To create a bucket in the Impossible Cloud Storage Console, simply navigate to the buckets section and click Add Bucket.
In order to create an immutable backup in Commvault, you need to enable versioning and object lock on the bucket without specifying a retention period (this is handled inside Commvault). Learn how to create a bucket with versioning and object lock in the Impossible Cloud Storage documentation here.
Step 2: Create an access and secret key in the Impossible Cloud Storage Console
Access and secret keys are generated under the keys tab in the Impossible Cloud Storage Console. Remember to always securely store your access and secret key. Please find here detailed instructions on how to create an access and secret key.
Step 3: Add Cloud Storage in Commvault Command Center
- Log into the Commvault Command Center.
- Navigate to Storage and click on Cloud.
- Once there, click Add and follow the configuration wizard:
- Specify a proper name (e.g. 'Impossible‑Cloud‑S3') and select S3 Compatible Storage as storage type.
- Under Server Host enter the Impossible Cloud regional storage endpoint of the previously created bucket, for example: https://eu-central-2.storage.impossibleapi.net. You can find all available endpoints here.
- Select the MediaAgent that will handle the backup data. Learn how to set up a Commvault MediaAgent here.
- For Credentials click on the “+” sign and provide the access and secret key previously created in Step 2.
- Search and select the Bucket you created in the Impossible Cloud Storage Console in Step 1. Click on Detect to see the list of all available buckets in your Impossible Cloud storage account.
- Click Save once you finished the configuration.
Step 4: Use Impossible Cloud as your backup target
Once you’ve completed the configuration, Impossible Cloud Storage can be selected as a backup location in your backup plans in Commvault Command Center. For details on which workloads are supported with external cloud storage locations, please consult the official Commvault documentation corresponding to your product edition (cloud or on-premises) and version.
