This article outlines the steps to use forever forward incremental backups in MSP360 with Impossible Cloud Storage, including account setup, configuration, and backup plan creation.
Forever forward incremental backups are an efficient backup method that reduces storage space and improves backup speed by only storing changes after the initial full backup (learn more in the official MSP360 documentation). This approach requires in-bucket object copying, which is fully supported by Impossible Cloud.
Steps to use forever forward incremental backups in MSP360 with Impossible Cloud Storage
Step 1: Connect your Impossible Cloud Storage Account to MSP360
The first step is to connect your existing Impossible Cloud storage account to MSP360.
Open MSP360, go to ‘Storage Accounts’ under the ‘Backup’ section and click ‘Add Account’. Choose S3-compatible and fill in the required information according to our detailed MSP360 guide.
You can also use an account that is already connected to MSP360.
Step 2: Allow synthetic full backups in the account settings in MSP360
Open the ‘Change Credentials’ menu of your connected Impossible Cloud Storage Account in MSP360.
Check mark the field ‘Allow Synthetic Full backup’ and save the changes.
Step 3: Create a new backup plan using forever forward incremental mode
After you configured the storage account to allow synthetic full backups, you can create a new backup plan using the forever forward incremental mode. Select this storage account as the destination for the backup and select ‘Simple’ under 'Schedule Options'.
Step 4: Validate functionality
You can validate the functionality by forcing a synthetic full backup for the new backup plan (run at least 2 increments before you do it).
If storage account settings are modified after installing the backup agent, you may need to reapply the user account on the respective machine.
