How to use Impossible Cloud Storage with Iperius Backup
Impossible Cloud Storage can be added to Iperius Backup as an S3-compatible cloud destination, giving your backup jobs an off-site destination for immutable backup copies.
Iperius Backup is backup software for Windows workstations and servers. It protects files and folders, drive images, virtual machines (VMware ESXi and Hyper-V), databases such as SQL Server and MySQL, and Microsoft 365 data, and can send backups to local, network and cloud destinations.
Iperius maintains the step-by-step instructions for this integration: How to Back Up to Impossible Cloud with Iperius Backup. Use that article for detailed instructions in Iperius Backup. This article covers what you need to prepare on the Impossible Cloud side first.
Prepare the bucket
Create the bucket in the Impossible Cloud Storage Console before configuring Iperius Backup. You then select this existing bucket when adding the cloud destination in Iperius.
Prepare the access key
Iperius Backup authenticates with an access key and secret key. We recommend a dedicated IAM user restricted to the backup bucket. See How to Set Up a Secure Programmatic Access to Impossible Cloud Storage for Backup Applications for creating the user, attaching a policy and generating the key.
For the policy contents, use the JSON template in Iperius' tutorial, which lists the actions Iperius Backup needs.
Check the endpoint / Service Point configuration
Use the Impossible Cloud regional S3 endpoint for the bucket's region and use it as the service point in Iperius. The Service Point must correspond to the endpoint of the region where the bucket was created. See S3 regional endpoints.
Adding the storage in Iperius Backup
In Iperius Backup, the storage is added from a backup job's Destinations tab with Add destination on Cloud, then Add / Edit Account, using the S3 account type. Enter the access key, secret key and regional endpoint, enable Use SSL and set the signature version to 4.
Follow Iperius' tutorial for the full sequence.
